SMArt - Self-monitoring system for Arteriovenous fistula

Project Planning

WP1 - Coordination, management, and dissemination

WP1 (UNICAMPANIA) [months 1-24] – Coordination, risk management, and dissemination

WP1 deals with the coordination of the whole project, particularly by supervising the synergy between all WPs, and managing the timing and modalities of collaboration between the Research Units. WP1 will ensure that project objectives are met on time, quality standards and budget.

WP2 - Design of the home-care surveillance system

WP2 (UNICAMPANIA) [months 1-22] – Design of the home-care surveillance system

The objective of this WP is to design the whole home-care surveillance system. The UNICAMPANIA unit, which is the project leader and the medical unit, will be responsible for the accomplishment of this WP. This WP will provide detailed definition of the system requirements, in compliance with medical guidelines for AVF patients management and with organization of healthcare services.

WP3 - Design and implementation of smartphone-based sensors

WP3 (UNINA) [months 1-15] – Design and implementation of smartphone-based sensors

This WP will be in charge for smartphone-based sensors design and development. The WP will evaluate various options for the realization of a low-cost sensor that is capable of recording the pulse (sphygmic wave), the thrill and vascular bruit sounds. At present, we are not aware of any sensors available for thrill recording, which are only perceived by palpation.

WP4 - Patients recruitment and data collection

WP4 (UNICAMPANIA) [months 3-21] – Patients recruitment and data collection

This WP deals with the clinical trials of the proposed new system. Once the sensors are available (see WP3), it will be possible to start the measurement campaign involving the groups of patients specified by WP2. Initially, data acquisition will be carried out in the clinical setting at the follow-up visits that patients undergo after fistula surgery.

WP5 - Processing and analysis of patient data

WP5 (UNISA) [months 5-24] – Processing and analysis of patient data

This WP is dedicated to processing data taken from AVF patients and extracting significant parameters for early recognition of fistulaco mplications. Various parameters will be extracted from the patient signal such as the amplitude or intensity of the sphygmic wave, the frequency and amplitude and waveform of the thrill, the frequency contents of the bruit sounds.
